For years I wondered what it was and how to get it, and only recently I realized that awareness is the result of deep curiosity. When we are deeply interested and curious we accept everything we see, without judging and without comparing it to a standard or what it should be.
We are totally at peace within ourselves, totally absorbed to observe. There is no thought, no worry, no fear. It is a constant process: moment by moment, we are totally in the now and now. We are at one with what we observe: there is no division, no conflict. And it is so almost frighteningly simple and easy. Deep, sincere, attentive curiosity.
Only a free mind can do this. Free from preconceptions, beliefs and prejudices. Free to accept without fear what it is. Free and open to transformation. A quiet mind, which has delegated - in the case of martial arts - a superb level of automatism of techniques to the body, which will react adequately with somatic and technical intelligence to every change of situation, without the intervention of the rational thinking party. But he will be able to look at the opponent with deep curiosity, becoming one with him, with a process of attention without discontinuity. It is not necessary to be intellectually intelligent, but technically trained, up to the highest level of conscious automatism.
